Riaz Ahmad obtained his M.Sc. Zoology with specialization in Genetics, M.Phil
and Ph.D. from the Department of Zoology, Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh.
Then he was awarded Young Scientist Project from Department of Science &
Technology, Ministry of Science & Technology and subsequently DS Kothari
Fellowship from the University Grants Commission to pursue Post-Doctoral
research. He was appointed as Assistant Professor in the Department in 2009.
The research in his laboratory is mainly focussed towards understanding the
mechanism of liver fibrosis to apprehend cellular functions, so as to develop
new and friendly derivatives for therapeutic usage. Moreover, the research on
the discovery of liver proteome is targetted to determine possible fibrotic
pathways and some novel biomarkers for early diagnosis of the disease. Together
with some basic studies carried out earlier, the work from his lab has been
published in journals of repute such as Comp Biochem Physiol (B)-Biochem &
Mol Biol, Ind J Biochem Biophys, Ind J Clin Biochem, Chemico-Biol Interact,
Ecotox Environ Safety, Environ Toxicol Pharmacol, J Med Biochem, Am J Biochem
& Mol Biol, Pharmac Biol and Int J Biol Macromol etc. Based on his
achievements, he received many prestigeous awards/fellowships such as Young
Scientist (DST, CST-UP), Shakuntala Amir Chand Award, Teachers Excellence
Award, Shisksha Rattan Puraskar, Health Excellence award and later BOYSCAST
Fellowship to pursue research at USA. Under his direct supervision, two PhDs
and two M.Phils. have been awarded. He received a number of research projects
from various national funding agencies. The citations of his research work is
around 375 with an H-index10 (googlescholar/28/01/2018).
