Biography

Weiguang Wang is a PhD graduate from the School of Mechanical, Aerospace and Civil Engineering, The University of Manchester, UK; Research Assistant in the Manufacturing Group and its Medical Engineering Research Centre, School of Mechanical, Aerospace and Civil Engineering, The University of Manchester, UK; Teaching assistant in Additive Manufacturing & 3D Product Modelling, and Metrology, Robotics & Bioengineering for the Mechanical Engineering Program and Master Programs in Advanced Manufacturing Technology & Systems Management, and Mechanical Engineering Design.

His research focuses on the design, fabrication and evaluation of electro-active scaffolds for tissue engineering, which requires an extensive knowledge on additive manufacturing, biomaterials and regenerative medicine. His PhD project, fully funded by the School of Mechanical Aerospace and Civil Engineering and the Marwick Bequest for Postgraduate Research in Engineering, The University of Manchester, UK, focused on the use of polycaprolactone scaffolds reinforced with graphene and carbon nanotubes to modulate cell proliferation and differentiation. As part of this research project, scaffolds with different architectures and material compositions were assessed from morphological, mechanical, and biological (in vivo and in vitro) points of view, showing that they are suitable candidates to be used for bone regeneration.

Main Research Interests: 3D Printing/Bioprinting; Biomaterials; Tissue Engineering; Regenerative Medicine.
