My name is Henry Heard, I am an Clinical Assistant Professor at the Mercer University Physician Assistant Program with five plus years in academia and 40 plus years as a clinician. I hold a doctor of health science degree, a master of physician assistant studies, a master of military study, a baccalaureate in physician assistant, and an associate in nursing degree. I practiced medicine as a physician assistant in orthopedic surgery for 15 years, primarily in sports medicine, total joint replacement, and general orthopedics. I have published several articles on orthopedic/sports medicine topics, have collaborated with colleagues in physical therapy to write ongoing continuing medical education products, and have recently presented at the Physician Assistants in Orthopedic Surgery annual meeting.
My research interests lie not just in clinical orthopedic and physical therapy medicine but in finding ways to deliver better orthopedic care, increasing utilization of physician assistants in orthopedic care, and developing methods to allow patients better access to medical care.
