Biography

Barbara S. Mitchell, Ph.D. has been an educator for the past 20 years. She began her career as a classroom teacher in elementary and middle school special education settings. Currently Barbara is an Assistant Research Professor for the University of Missouri. Her work focuses on Emotional and Behavioral Disorders (E/BD), School-wide Positive Behavior Support (SW-PBS), and classroom management. Barbara is affiliated with the Office of Special Education Programs National Technical Assistance Center for Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (pbis.org) and facilitates implementation of the Safe and Healthy Students, School Climate Transformation Grant with several state and local education agency award recipients across the Midwest regions of the United States. Dr. Mitchell serves on the editorial board for the Journal of Positive Behavior Interventions, and is affiliated with professional organizations such as the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC), the Council for Children with Behavioral Disorders (CCBD), and the Association for Positive Behavior Support (APBS).
