Dr. Ashraf El-Metwally is an internationally recognized medical doctor and scientist with a PhD in Epidemiology and Biostatistics (from University of Tampere, Finland). He is best known as a docent of Epidemiology in the University of Tampere (Finland). After completion of his degree, he was appointed as an epidemiologist at the Rheumatism Foundation Hospital in Finland from 2003-2005. In 2006, Dr. Ashraf El-Metwally joined as a Lecturer in the Department of Epidemiology and Bio-statistics at University of Aberdeen, UK. He also served as a Faculty in Health Sciences, Higher Colleges of Technology, Sharjah, UAE from 2008-2011.
He was then appointed as an assistant professor in the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics in 2011, while holding an honorary lecturer position at the department of Public Health-University of Aberdeen in the UK. Dr. Ashraf El-Metwally has supervised more than 20 MPH projects. He now serves as an Associate Professor and Director of MPH Epidemiology Program at the College of Public Health and Health Informatics, King Saud Bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Dr. Ashraf is also a renowned qualified instructor in Public health sciences, at the University of Roehampton, UK.
His research experience focuses on clinical trials, systematic reviews, meta-analysis, cross sectional studies, with scientific interest in wide range of topics such as pain, musculoskeletal disorders, rheumatic diseases, dental disorders, digital health research, communicable & non-communicable diseases and Alternative medicine. Dr Ashraf has published more than 60 research articles in prominent peer reviewed international journals, presented papers in many national and international conferences, and has co-authored two books, five book chapters, and commenced several grant funded research projects.
Currently, Dr. Ashraf El-Metwally is an active member of Editorial Board and review committees of several international medical journals including European Journal of Pain, Primary Care Epidemiology and Global Health & Annuals of Rheumatic Diseases. He is also an “Editor in chief” of the Journal of Health Informatics in Developing Countries.
Dr. Ashraf El-Metwally’s research contribution and proficient research publications are all testaments of his extraordinary talents that can be evidenced by more than 1000 google scholars citation, the quality of the published articles; that has earned him multiple and pioneering awards (most notably from British pain society - Young Investigator Award (2006) and First Prize for The Best Submitted Paper and Presentation (2007) from British society of rheumatology), as well as membership with reputable research and public health organizations, which named him one of the “Most Influential People in the World” in Marquis Who’s Who -2009.
