Biography

Education and Degrees: Graduated from Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University School of Agriculture, Lublin, (Vet.Surg., 1966); doctor of veterinary sciences at the Agricultural-Technical University, Olsztyn ( Ph. D , 1974); doctor habilitatus (Assist. Prof., 1982); Assoc. Prof of MIHE (1997), Professor 2007.

Carrier: assistant at the Dept. of Virology, Veterinary Institute, Pu?awy (1966-1970); sr. assistant and adjunct at the Military Research Centre of Veterinary Services, Pu?awy ( ONBSW, 1970-1975); head of the Sanitary Epidemiological Laboratory, UNEF, Egypt (1975); head of Dept. of Microbiology and Epizootiology at ONBSW, Pu?awy (1976-1985); commandant of the Military Research Centre of Veterinary Service, Pu?awy (1985-89); deputy commandant of MIHE and head of ONBSW (1989-2002); deputy director of MIHE and head of Biological Threat Identification and Countermeasure Centre, Pu?awy (from 2002 – 2011, 2012 - professor of MIHE, invited lecturer at the University of Lublin.

Professional activity: initiator of research collaboration of MIHE and the US Army institutions (since 1996 technical project officer for the US-Poland Master Information Exchange Agreement); principal designer of the Army defence system against biological weapons; co-organizer of the first in Poland BSL-3 laboratory; co-director of the NATO Workshop of Advanced Technologies ( organised for the first time in Poland in 1997 ); co-organizer of the meeting of the FHTV COMEDS NATO panel and a number of local and international scientific conferences.

Publications (research interest): over 200 original and review papers on rapid methods of detection of biological agents, epidemiology, molecular biology, microbial genetics, bacterial resistance, virology, zoonoses, immunology, eradication of infectious diseases, ecology of microorganisms, new vaccines,  modern treatment of infectious diseases and on countering biothreats.
