Dr Hong Wan is a non-clinical senior lecturer in the Centre for Immunobiology and Regenerative Medicine, Institute of Dentistry, Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry (SMD). Dr Wan’s interest is focused on intercellular junctions of epithelia in health and disease. She initially worked on tight junction in pulmonary epithelial cells and its inhibitory role in the antigen presentation of house dust mite in asthma, and then she joined a dermatological team at St John’s Institute of Dermatology, St Thomas’ Hospital working on hereditary skin disorders caused by defects in the desmosome genes. Finally, she moves to current centre focusing on cadherin signalling, in particular the desmosomal cadherin desmoglein-3 and its associated skin diseases, pemphigus and cancer.
