Biography

Dr Zhiwei Huang received his PhD from NTU in 1999. He did his postdoctoral work in the Cancer Imaging Dept, British Columbia Cancer Agency (BCCA), and Faculty of Medicine at the University of British Columbia (UBC), Canada, and completed his training in Biomedical Optics and Imaging, Photobiology and Photomedicine in 2003. He also served as an international consultant in lasers and optics at the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) in Austria and the International Centre for Science and High Technology (ICS) in Italy in 1999-2000. In late 2003, he joined the National University of Singapore as an Assistant Professor with the Division of Bioengineering.

His research interests include optical spectroscopy and imaging in medical diagnostics and treatment, modeling of light propagation in turbid media, nonlinear microscopy, optical coherence microscopy, and single molecule imaging. Currently, his research group is focusing on a number of research projects such as high contrast coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering (CARS) microscopy, near-field CARS microscopy, endoscope-based spectroscopy (Raman, fluorescence, reflectance, scattering, EEM) and imaging techniques to enable early diagnosis and detection of epithelial precancer and cancer.
