Biography

Steven Habusta is an Osteopathic orthopedic surgeon in Erie, Pa.  He is a professor of orthopedic surgery at the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine, Chief of Surgery at Millcreek Community Hospital, and Program Director of the orthopedic surgery residency program of LECOM Health.  He is a graduate of the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and received a DO degree in June of 1974. He completed a rotating internship and orthopedic surgery residency at Grandview Hospital in Dayton, Ohio, and he received a MEd degree in educational psychology from The University of Toledo in 2001.  His interests include adult motivation learning theory, the female athlete, and the use of information technology in medical practice.  He has published in Clinical Orthopedics and Related Research, The Journal of Genetic Psychology, and Stat Pearls online data base.  He is the team physician for the Mercyhurst University Women’s Ice Hockey team.

CURRENT RESEARCH INTERESTS:

  • Is there a rational for the use on non-use of cell phones in the operating room? Should restrictions be placed on their use?
  • Should Osteopathic medical students be screened for cervical spine disease or anomalies prior to participation in manipulative instruction and practice?
  • Evaluation of the development of forefoot complications associated with long term ice hockey skating and participation.
